Two amounts of money are in the ratio 4:3. If the first amount is £24, what is
the second amount?
In this question, we are not given the total, and we are not asked for it either.
We just have to find the size of the other portion.
The ratio is 4:3, and the 4 parts amount to £24. The 3 parts is three-quarters of 4
parts, so calculate
3
4
of £24.
3 parts =
3
4
× £24 = £18
